The Chair of Hardware/Software Co-Design at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is looking to fill the position of a
Doctoral Researcher – Compiler and Architecture Design of Massively Parallel Processor Architectures
as soon as possible. The position is full-time and serves for continued scientific training, including the possibility to pursue a doctorate.
Your Working Environment:
The Architecture and Compiler Design group at Hardware/Software Co-Design, FAU, focuses on the design of dedicated processor architectures and associated mapping tools and compilers. The post advertised offers the opportunity to investigate, on the one hand, the design, optimization (with regard to throughput, energy efficiency, and computational accuracy), and prototyping of accelerators in the form of programmable processor arrays, as well as the integration into heterogeneous MPSoCs (Multi-Processor System-on-Chip). On the other hand, the position facilitates research in software development (including domain-specific languages, application mapping and scheduling, and code generation) for these novel accelerators.
Your Tasks and Opportunities:
- As part of your doctoral research, we provide guidance and freedom for the systematic examination of techniques for modern design and optimization of future many-core architectures.
- You work on innovative hardware/software methods to advance energy efficiency and performance in parallel processor architectures.
- You can prototype your designed processor architectures on state-of-the-art FPGA platforms, and integrate, test, and evaluate them into modern MPSoCs.
Your Profile:
- You have a Master’s degree in Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), or a related subject.
- You have skills and interests in computer architecture, electronic design automation, hardware description languages (e.g., VHDL, SystemVerilog, Chisel), and FPGA design tools.
- You have skills and interest in parallel computing and compilation (e.g., LLVM/Clang, MLIR) and applications from AI and high-performance computing.
- You enjoy working in a team, are open-minded and communicative, and are interested in both the methodical and practical aspects of novel processor architectures and corresponding compilers.
- You have a high proficiency in oral and written English. German is beneficial.
Remarks:
- Applications should include your CV, degrees and certificates, job references, as well as relevant special knowledge and professional experiences.
- Pay Grade, depending on qualification: TVL E 13
- The post advertised is a full-time position but a temporary position.
- Disabled persons with equivalent aptitude will be favored. The Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.
We are looking forward to your complete application, which you direct by e-mail no later than January 10, 2025, to Prof. Dr. Jürgen Teich as well as Dr. Frank Hannig.
